FAQ

OUR NARBERTH DENTISTS ANSWER YOUR DENTAL QUESTIONS

At Main Line Center For Dental Excellence, our focus is on patient care both inside and outside of the office. We want you to feel as confident and comfortable as possible about your dental care, so we are always available during business hours to answer any questions you might have. For those times that we are not available, our doctors have provided the answers to some of the most common questions we get from patients below.

Q. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE A DENTIST?

A. For an adult with stable oral and systemic health, we recommend a professional cleaning and check-up 2 times per year (in line with the American Dental Association’s standard).  For individuals with more complex dental and medical situations, recommendations are made based on need.  This could be a cleaning and check-up every 2-4 months.

Q. WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

A. If you believe you have a dental emergency, please call our office as soon as possible.  If it occurs during our regular business hours, we will work you into our schedule.  If it occurs outside of our regular business hours, including the weekend and during holidays, please call our office to speak with our answering service and they will contact the doctor on call.  We are available for our patients of record 24/7 for consultation or treatment when deemed necessary.

Q. WHAT KIND OF TOOTHBRUSH SHOULD I USE?

A. The gold standard in our practice is the Sonicare electric toothbrush.  If you wish to use a manual toothbrush, we typically will recommend a brush with soft bristles. In addition, we recommend an assortment of oral hygiene devices to patients dependent on individual needs.

Q. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY TOOTHBRUSH?

A. The American Dental Association and our doctors recommend that you replace your toothbrush every 3 months. After 3 months of wear and tear, toothbrushes become less effective at cleaning your teeth. Depending on your oral health or whether you have had a cold or flu, you may need to replace your brush sooner.

Q. SHOULD I BRUSH OR FLOSS FIRST?

A. As long as you brush and floss thoroughly, it does not matter which order you choose; however, flossing before brushing enables the fluoride in your toothpaste to better reach the areas between the teeth.

Q. IS ONE TYPE OF TOOTHPASTE BETTER THAN THE OTHERS?

A. Choosing a toothpaste that best fits an individual can be complicated.  Depending on allergies, sensitivities, and need for supplemental fluoride levels, different toothpaste is recommended.  The best fit for you should be determined by yourself and your dental healthcare provider.

Q. WHAT SETS OUR PRACTICE APART?

A. We feel our practice is different in a multitude of ways.  Having specialists and general dentists working together side by side promotes excellent communication and treatment options.  Our high quality, low volume practice also provides for close patient/doctor relationships in a comfortable and caring environment.

Q. DO YOU OFFER EARLY/LATE HOURS?

A. We offer early morning and evening hours (starting at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m.) on certain days to accommodate our patient’s busy schedules.  We also offer Saturday hours.
